Hello my loves,
College Essentials – I have been waiting to do this post for a long time now. A few of you even suggested me the same and I am really sorry for the delay. But better late than never, right? 🙂 So here I am with my top ten college essentials.
DISCLAIMER- This one is going to be a long read. 😛
A lot of you will be starting your college very soon. I, myself, am going to start mine and even though this will be my second time (post-graduation), I am no less nervous myself. However since I have already been to college for three years, there are a lot of things I learnt with time. Also this post is not only for people who are going to start but also for those who are going back to college after vacations and still wondering on what they could still do. 🙂
In this post I’m going to share my college must-haves! Let’s get going. 😀
The biggest question that we face when we go to college everyday is WHAT TO WEAR!? Specially when you’re just out of school and you’re used to wearing a uniform, choosing a new outfit each day becomes a huge issue. Don’t worry I am here to help. 🙂
BOTTOMS IN VARIETY.
Experimentation is my key to everything. I have noticed that most people generally do not care much about what bottoms they wear. I was one of them. I would own a few pair of jeans but multiple tops and shirts. THIS DOESN’T WORK. Try and own a few skirts, palazzos, jeggings, shorts, boyfriend jeans and others that might appeal to you. And even if you wear just a camisole on top, you are on point.
You don’t have to spend a lot of money on these either. I have so many bottoms in the range of only INR150-300 from street markets. You can also always check out Myntra and other cool online shopping sites specially now when there is sale going on everywhere. 🙂 😛
A colourful scarf can add life to any basic outfit. So even if you’re going out with a pair of jeggings and a cami top, add a scarf and you’re good to go. The best part is that it is not even a big investment. You can get these scarves ranging from INR 50-100.
Nothing kills a good outfit more than bad footwear. And just like scarves, a good footwear can pull any boring look off! For college the best thing to do is look for comfortable footwear. You obviously cannot wear big heels to college ( unless of course you’re planning to join the Mean Girls gang! Haha.)
Here too you don’t need to spend a lot. Get some normal flip-flops from the streets but the only thing I would ask you to keep in mind is to take care not to buy the ones that you see a lot in stores because you will end up looking just like everybody else. Look for different pieces. You can buy a pair of kolhapuris which add a lot of funk to modern outfits too.
Sneakers are my personal favourite. So all in all a few good pairs of footwear will be of great use in the end.
I have come across a lot of people who think that wearing a dress to college looks like too much of an effort. However I feel that plain casual dresses are the perfect outfit for college during summers.
Of course I am only talking about casual dresses here not the ones that you’d wear to a party night. Go for maxis, which are a rage this season. You can also go for midi dresses. Try not going too short on the length, keep the short ones for shopping with your girls! 🙂
For me a denim jacket is a wardrobe must have. I absolutely love how versatile it is, you can wear it with almost everything, be it jeans, skirt, a dress and what not. Also now that fall is around the corner and it is soon going to get a little chilly, a denim jacket always comes to rescue.
Like scarves, a denim jacket is also a good cover-up for a revealing or not-appropriate-for-college top or dress!
Lately a lot of modern-yet-ethnic trends are going on. The trick to wear ethnic to college is to keep it simple. And mod-ethnic does not mean just a kurta and jeggings, you can also go for an ethnic long skirt, a kurti and a skirt, an ethnic vest on top of western outfit, there’s a lot you can experiment with.
Whatever my views on the use of make-up be, College is certainly not the right place to show your contouring talent at. A simple BB cream, kajal (or eye-liner) and a light lip balm or lip-colour makes you good to go. 🙂
EXPERIMENT WITH YOUR HAIR.
Good hair always makes us feel confident. You can learn a lot of easy hairstyles for college and stand out from the crowd. Don’t be afraid of trying, that’s the key.
You can let me know if you want me to do a tutorial for easy, 2-minute hairstyles suitable for college. 😀
Nothing kills the vibe more than bad odour and I am sure you don’t want to be one of those. In such heat and humidity, we tend to sweat a lot. I sweat like a pig myself. And don’t worry I’m not asking you to invest some Dolce and Gabannashizz, there are a lot of good brands of deodorants and body mists. My favourites would definitely be Nivea Roll on, Engage, Reebok, Nike and Layer (body mists).
Accessories add all the required charm to any outfit. For college the trick is to keep it minimal and on point. Sometimes just a pair of earrings are enough, other time you can also layer a few pendants together. Totally depends on what outift you’re going with.
If you want a tutorial on how to choose the right accessories for an outfit, do let me know. 😀
This one is the most important of all. Be confident, be social and most of all, be you. When people try to be something they are not, it is only a turn off for others. Let others see who you are. Be creative and style your outfits in your own way because no matter what I tell you to do, if you’re not confident or comfortable in the same, it will only turn out to be a mess.
I hope you liked this post. Let me know if you guys want any tutorial on the points that I have discussed, you can also shoot in your queries and suggestions! I would be glad to be of help. 🙂
